Q. I am considering having semi permanent eyeliner done, is there a difference between Semi Permanent or Permanent?
A: Many times I have been asked about the differences between these types of makeup. The reason behind the confusion is the different name given to the same procedure in different countries. In the United States the procedure is called Permanent Makeup or Permanent Derma graphics or Micro pigmentation. In Europe and the UK it is called Semi Permanent Makeup. Real Semi Permanent Makeup will not penetrate the upper layer of the skin, the epidermis, and will disappear with skin rejuvenation within 28 days. Any procedure that will last longer is Permanent Makeup and the micro pigment is implanted through the epidermis into the dermis. Microscopic fragments of this pigment will stay in the skin indefinitely even if the colour is unseen to the naked eye. That's why in the USA the procedure is called Permanent Makeup. The reason the procedure is still named Semi Permanent in the UK is because the Legislator chose to emphasise the ongoing, repetitive maintenance required. Whereas, in the USA, more emphasis was placed on the permanent nature of the procedure. |
